Edmonton, Alberta – July 21, 2012 – Alex Tagliani earned another Firestone Fast Six spot on Saturday afternoon on the Edmonton City Centre Airport street circuit. He will start fourth for Sunday’s Edmonton Indy Race.
The second Canadian race marks Team Barracuda – BHA’s third consecutive Firestone Fast Six qualifying run, not including his pole position at Texas Motor Speedway in June. Tagliani ran a 1:17.6139 to qualify in P5, however he gained an additional starting spot due to a penalty for one of the other “Fast Six” drivers.
Overall, Tagliani is very pleased with the results he’s achieving with the No. 98 crew.
“Achieving our third Firestone Fast Six in a row says it all,” said Tagliani. “We definitely have some pace. I think we had our share of bad luck in a lot of the races like Detroit and Toronto so hopefully tomorrow will be a lucky race for us.
“That’s the only thing that the Barracuda team needs. The team is doing fantastic. We have a good car and good pace. We’re a one-car team and we’re fighting with some pretty good teams out there, so I’m very pleased.
“Everybody is doing a great job. We’re doing everything right and we have all the speed we need but things always happen in the race – just little things, but in this series it’s so competitive that you need to have everything perfect for the entire race. If we can put it all together and get a bit of luck I think we can have a good result.”
Tomorrow’s Edmonton Indy will give Tagliani, a native of Lachenaie, Quebec, another chance to race in front of his “home” crowd in Canada. The estimated green flag for the 75-lap competition is scheduled for 12:47 p.m. local (MDT). The Edmonton Indy will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network. Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast on IMS Radio Network and Sirius (XM 94 and Sirius 212).
