Team Barracuda – BHA driver Alex Tagliani made an impressive qualifying run and earned the P3 spot on the grid to start Sunday’s Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
After the first practice session was rained out on Friday morning, Team Barracuda – BHA worked hard to make the right changes with limited practice time. Tagliani knew he had a strong car after a solid run and P12 finish at the Indianapolis 500 last weekend.
The team recently switched to Honda power and Belle Isle will the first road course for the No. 98 with the new power plant. It’s also the first race of 2012 in which Tagliani has qualified for the Firestone Fast Six.
“I’m very pleased with Team Barracuda – BHA,” said Tagliani. “The guys did awesome. Everybody pushed really hard and put forth a great effort. We had a great car to start the qualifying and it allowed us to make it into the top three. It’s definitely a testament to a lot of effort and dedication from the guys, for both here and the Indy 500.
To get the Barracuda Networks and Bowers & Wilkins No. 98 car up there so quickly on our first road course with Honda is a huge accomplishment and almost a victory for us. I’m very thankful that the Honda people decided to bring us back into the family. Hopefully we’ll have a good race!”
Starting from P3, the Canadian driver will aim to achieve his highest finish of the season for his team, sponsors and fans. Pre-race ceremonies for Sunday’s IZOD IndyCar Series race will take place at 3 p.m. ET with an estimated green flag drop at 3:45 p.m. The telecast will be available live on ABC.
